How CamperBay.nl handles your personal data — what we use, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept and what rights you have.
The Dutch version is the primary source text. A difference between translations does not affect your mandatory data-protection rights.

This privacy policy explains how CamperBay.nl processes personal data when you visit our website, create an account, place a listing, contact another user, post a review, contact us or otherwise use the platform.
We think it is important to be clear about which data we use, why we do so, with whom data may be shared, how long data is kept and what rights you have.
This privacy policy applies to the website CamperBay.nl and the services and functions connected with it.
The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) is:

We refer to this party below as “CamperBay”, “we”, “us” or “our”.
For questions about this privacy policy or about the processing of your personal data you can contact us at info@camperbay.nl.
This privacy policy applies to everyone whose personal data CamperBay processes. This includes, among others, visitors to the Platform, registered users, private and business advertisers, buyers and prospective buyers, people who post messages or reviews and people who contact us through the contact form.
CamperBay is aimed primarily at users in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
The age rules set out in our Terms of Use also apply to creating and independently using an account.
Which personal data we process depends on how you use CamperBay.
When you create an account or complete your profile, we may process your e-mail address, name, telephone number, company name, address, postcode and profile photo, among other things.
Your password is not stored in readable form. We keep only a cryptographic hash with which it can be checked whether the password entered is correct.
When you place a listing, we process the information you enter into the listing yourself, including the title, description, technical details, price, location, characteristics of the vehicle or part offered and photos.
Listing fields may contain free text. A user can therefore enter personal data there, such as a name or telephone number.
Photos may also contain personal data. Think of recognisable people, number plates, addresses or other identifying details.
Therefore do not place other people’s personal data on CamperBay when this is not necessary and you have no valid reason or consent to do so.
CamperBay is not intended for processing or publishing special categories of personal data, such as health data, religious beliefs, political opinions or other sensitive personal data. We ask users not to publish such data through listings, profiles or messages.
When users communicate with each other through CamperBay, we process and store the content of those messages and the information necessary to link the sender and recipient to the conversation concerned.
Messages are not public.
We do not systematically read private messages. A message may be viewed by authorised staff where this is necessary to investigate fraud, abuse, a report, a security incident or a dispute, or where we are legally required to do so.
When you post a review, we process the review, any accompanying text, the author of the review and the link with the user being reviewed.
Reviews published on CamperBay are in principle public.
When you contact CamperBay through the contact form, we process your name, e-mail address, the subject of your message, the content of the message and the technical data necessary for security and for combating spam, among other things.
In order for the Platform to function safely and reliably, we may process IP addresses in connection with, among other things, the contact form, anti-spam measures, security measures, administrator activity and the recording of a user’s last login.
We do not use this data to build general profiles of website visitors.
When CamperBay sends an e-mail, we record in our own mail log the recipient’s e-mail address and the subject of the e-mail, among other things.
The full content of the e-mail sent is not stored in this internal CamperBay mail log.
For the actual delivery of e-mails we use an external e-mail service provider. That provider processes the full content of a message because this is technically necessary to deliver the e-mail to the recipient.
For certain functions we use aggregated counters, for example for the number of times a listing or a particular advertising position has been shown.
For these own counters we store no visitor ID, no user profile, no IP address and no individual browser session. The data is stored solely as aggregated totals per listing and/or per day.
We only process personal data where there is a legal basis for doing so.
Where data is necessary to make an account available, publish a listing, enable messages between users or provide other platform functions you have requested, we base the processing on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR: performance of a contract or taking pre-contractual steps.
For security, fraud prevention, combating spam, protection against abuse, investigating incidents, running the Platform, technical logging and defending against legal claims we rely, where appropriate, on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: the legitimate interest of CamperBay or of other users. Our legitimate interests include keeping a safe and reliable trading platform available and protecting users and our systems against abuse.
Where personal data must be kept because of tax, administrative, judicial or other legal obligations, we process it on the basis of Article 6(1)(c) GDPR: compliance with a legal obligation.
For Google Analytics, personalised advertising, advertising cookies and comparable non-necessary tracking technologies we base the processing, where legally required, on Article 6(1)(a) GDPR: consent.
You can withdraw consent once given at any time.
A significant part of CamperBay is a public marketplace.
Information you knowingly place in a public listing, public profile or public review can therefore be viewed by other visitors to CamperBay.
Public pages can also be found and indexed by search engines.
Think carefully, therefore, before including personal data in a public listing or image.
When a listing or other user content is removed from CamperBay, copies may remain present for some time in caches, search engines or other services over which CamperBay has no direct control.
CamperBay uses necessary and functional cookies and, only where consent has been given, analytics and advertising technologies.
PHPSESSID is used for the technical session and the login functionality. This cookie in principle lasts until the browser session ends.
cp_lang remembers the chosen language and is kept for a maximum of 90 days.
cp_loc remembers the region or location preference you have chosen for search results and is kept for a maximum of 365 days. This cookie does not use GPS location to track you automatically.
cp_car remembers the caravan or motorhome you have chosen for the fitment and parts search and is kept for a maximum of 365 days.
cp_consent_an records your choice regarding analytics cookies and is kept for a maximum of 365 days.
cp_consent_ad records your choice regarding advertising technology and is kept for a maximum of 365 days.
For authorised administrators additional secured session cookies are used. These have a maximum session duration of approximately six hours.
Where applicable, session cookies are given appropriate security attributes, including HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite.
Necessary and functional cookies are used because they are needed to deliver the requested service or to remember a function you have chosen, and are not intended to track your behaviour across different websites.
When you give consent for analytics cookies, CamperBay may use Google Analytics 4.
Google Analytics may process information about pages visited, events during a visit, the technical characteristics of the browser or device and general location data, among other things.
CamperBay has disabled Google Signals.
For Google Analytics the retention period for user and event data is set to a maximum of 14 months, in so far as that setting applies to the data concerned.
The “Enhanced Measurement” function may be used. This allows Google Analytics to measure, in addition to page views, when a visitor scrolls far down the page, uses the internal search function, clicks an outbound link or downloads a file.
Google Analytics is only activated on CamperBay once the required consent has been obtained.
CamperBay may use Google AdSense to display advertisements on the Platform.
When you give consent for advertising cookies and personalised advertising, Google and selected advertising technology partners may use cookies, local storage and comparable technologies to process data for, among other things, ad delivery, ad measurement, fraud prevention and, if you have consented to it, personalisation of advertising.
Google and advertising partners may in doing so use information obtained from earlier visits to CamperBay or other websites in order to personalise advertising.
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland we use for these purposes a Consent Management Platform solution supported or certified by Google, where the Google terms require this.
The current list of advertising technology partners, their purposes, legal bases and privacy information is made available through the consent window. Because this list may change through the advertising ecosystem, the CMP is the current source for the advertising partners active at any given moment.
You can change your advertising preferences through our cookie settings and can additionally use the privacy and advertising settings that Google itself makes available.
CamperBay does not load Google Analytics or Google AdSense before the consent required for this has been obtained.
Should CamperBay in future decide to show advertising without tracking consent through a limited or non-personalised advertising mode in which data is nevertheless sent to a third party, this privacy policy and the cookie consent will be adjusted beforehand.
You can refuse consent for analytics and advertising technology without losing normal access to CamperBay.
You can change your choice again at any time.
At the bottom of CamperBay there is a link to Cookie settings with which you can withdraw or adjust your consent.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before the withdrawal.
We do not sell personal data of CamperBay users to data brokers or other parties.
We may share personal data with parties that perform services for CamperBay, in so far as this is necessary.
CamperBay uses Brevo for the technical delivery of e-mails.
For this, Brevo may process the recipient’s e-mail address, sender details, subject, message metadata and the full content of a sent e-mail, among other things.
Depending on the settings, events may also be processed, such as delivery, error messages, opens and clicks.
CamperBay uses such information solely for the delivery, security and technical monitoring of e-mail.
Where individual open or click tracking is not necessary, CamperBay limits or anonymises this tracking in so far as the Brevo functionality used allows it.
For transactional e-mail logs CamperBay sets a limited retention period. Where it is not necessary to keep a full copy of a sent transactional e-mail, storage of full e-mail previews at Brevo is switched off.
Brevo acts for this service in accordance with the applicable processor and data protection arrangements.
For the info@camperbay.nl mailbox CamperBay uses TransIP.
E-mails sent to or received in this mailbox may therefore be stored and technically processed on TransIP’s infrastructure.
Where consent has been given, personal data and usage data may be processed by Google in connection with Google Analytics and Google AdSense.
For users in the European Economic Area, Google Ireland Limited is an important contractual and privacy entity within the Google group.
Other advertising technology partners may also be involved in advertising services. The current partners are disclosed, where applicable, through the Consent Management Platform.
We may disclose personal data where we are legally required to do so, for example on the basis of a valid order from a competent court, supervisory authority or investigating authority.
We may likewise use data where this is necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
CamperBay prefers service providers and infrastructure within the European Economic Area.
Some international service providers, including companies within the Google group and sub-processors of our service providers, may process personal data outside the EEA in certain situations.
Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, we ensure that a valid transfer basis exists, for example an adequacy decision of the European Commission, the applicable Standard Contractual Clauses or another legally valid safeguard in accordance with the GDPR.

CamperBay does not keep personal data longer than necessary for the purpose for which the data was obtained, unless a longer retention period is necessary because of a legal obligation or a concrete legal procedure.
An account, profile, listings, photos, messages, reviews, favourites, saved searches and related account data are in principle kept for as long as the account exists. When the account is deleted, the data linked to the account is deleted, except for data to which a legal or demonstrably necessary exception applies.
Anti-spam data and IP addresses used solely for a temporary anti-spam block are kept for a maximum of 30 days.
The internal CamperBay mail log with recipient and subject is kept for a maximum of 6 months for technical diagnosis and monitoring of mail delivery.
Administrator and security logs are kept for a maximum of 12 months, unless a log is needed longer for the investigation of a concrete security incident.
Messages sent to CamperBay through the contact form are kept for a maximum of 12 months after handling, unless the message is necessary for an ongoing contract, complaint, dispute or legal obligation.
For Google Analytics the retention set for user and event data is a maximum of 14 months, in so far as the Google retention setting concerned applies to it.
Transactional e-mail logs at Brevo are set by CamperBay to a limited retention and are not kept indefinitely. CamperBay aims for a maximum operational retention period of 6 months, unless a longer period is demonstrably necessary.
Data forming part of the tax administration, including data necessary for invoices, paid advertising or banner orders and other financial transactions, may be kept for 7 years in accordance with the Dutch tax retention obligation.
A banner file or other advertising material is not kept for seven years solely because of the tax retention obligation where the file itself is not necessary for the administration. Such files are deleted once they are no longer needed for running the campaign, for complaints or for disputes.
Where a statutory retention obligation or a legal procedure requires longer retention, that obligation prevails.
At present the deletion of an account takes place on request.

On deletion, the profile and platform data linked to the account is deleted, including listings, listing photos, messages, reviews, favourites and saved searches.
Contact form messages that can be linked to the same e-mail address are likewise deleted where there is no independent reason to keep them longer.
Certain data is not deleted immediately together with the account where an independent legal basis exists for it.
This concerns, for example, the limited mail log kept for the technical retention period mentioned above, and data from paid advertising or other financial transactions that form part of the statutory administration.
Deleting an account does not automatically end data already lawfully obtained by other users in the context of a transaction, nor data stored by external search engines or other third parties outside CamperBay’s control.
CamperBay takes appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure and misuse.
The website is offered over HTTPS.
Passwords are not stored in readable form but as a cryptographic hash.
For resetting a forgotten password a single-use reset link is used. This link is valid for a maximum of 60 minutes.
The administrator login is protected against automated login attempts and brute-force attacks. After repeated incorrect logins the access point concerned may be temporarily blocked.
Access to administration and management functions is limited to authorised persons.
The key used for sending e-mail is, where possible, restricted to the IP address of the authorised server.
No technical security measure can, however, guarantee absolute safety.
Under the GDPR you have, depending on the circumstances, the right to receive information about the processing of your personal data and to request access to the personal data we process about you.
You can have incorrect or incomplete personal data corrected.
You can request the deletion of your personal data where we no longer need it or where another statutory ground for deletion applies.
You can in certain cases ask for the processing to be temporarily restricted.
For personal data that we process by automated means on the basis of consent or a contract, you may under the statutory conditions have a right to data portability.
Where we process personal data on the basis of a legitimate interest, you can object to that processing on grounds relating to your particular situation.
Where the processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time.

We may ask for additional information where this is reasonably necessary to establish that the request is genuinely being made by the person concerned.
We reply in principle within one month of receiving a valid request. If a request is particularly complex, or where many requests are received at the same time, the statutory response period may be extended. If that happens, we will inform you.
Exercising privacy rights is in principle free of charge.

If you live in another EU or EEA country, you can under the GDPR also contact the competent data protection authority of your own country.
CamperBay does not take decisions based solely on automated processing which produce legal effects concerning a user or similarly significantly affect them within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR.
Automatic security measures, such as a temporary block after repeated incorrect login attempts or anti-spam filters, are used to protect the Platform and do not constitute automated commercial profiling.
Most of the personal data CamperBay processes is provided to us directly by the person concerned.
It may, however, happen that another user includes information about someone in a message, listing, photo, review or report.
In that case the source of the information is the user concerned.
Users may only process other people’s personal data through CamperBay where there is a valid reason for doing so, and must take account of that person’s privacy rights.
We may change this privacy policy when the operation of CamperBay, our suppliers or the applicable legislation changes.
The current version is always published on CamperBay.
Where a change has material consequences for the way we process personal data already collected, we will inform users of this in an appropriate manner and, where consent is legally required again, will ask for that consent again.
At the top of this page is the date on which the privacy policy was last changed.
